About us....

Bendigo Aviation Services (BAS) was established in 1972. Initially a small flying school, in the early 1980's it began operating an airline service under the name of Sovereign Airlines linking the country Victorian townships of Mildura, Swan Hill and Bendigo with Melbourne, this was later discontinued. Purchased by the current owners in July 1990, it has once again grown from a small flying school conducting the occasional charter to one of the larger and more recognised and respected schools in country Victoria. Additionally it has enhanced it's charter business to the point where it now operates numerous regular charter flights each week on behalf of several clients, some of them which have been loyal customers for well over a decade. During the mid 1990's BAS also branched out into aerial work operations and was rewarded with a lucrative and sought after contract to conduct low-level power-line inspection for fire mitigation purposes on behalf of PowerCor. Instrumental in implementing safety improvements for aerial patrol crews, BAS conducted this demanding work for 10 years without an incident until the tender for the contract was withdrawn. Also at this time fire-spotting operations were commenced on behalf of both CFA and the then known as NRE (now DSE). This work continued until this day as an integral part of Victoria's defence against bushfires each summer. The people at BAS continually strive to improve standards and safety in all it's operations and this is what has made it a successful aviation company today
